It's tempting to think that we understand all of the nuts and bolts. The way we work, the things that matter. But when forced to think about how this all unfolds--how a story is actually created--it's clear that so much remains a mystery. And that mystery is a bit reassuring in this moment of history. Let's be less certain of everything, okay? What a rallying cry!

But, really, to those who want to to turn their quantifications to the arts, to those who want to use AI to make our recipes, our movies, our books, let's ask them why? The making is the human yearning. The making is where we can each find a unique part of ourselves. None of this was meant to be about commerce. The original recipes were meant to nourish, heal, mourn, celebrate. The original art was meant to express or retain, prove or refute. The original stories were meant to evoke wonder, emotion, history. They were not meant to be packaged and bundled and sold. Using AI for art presumes the need for efficiency and speed. Making meaning cannot be done efficiently or speedily. Stay in mystery and wonder.
